Iowa & Illinois Tinting Laws

Iowa Law limits the light transmission to 70% on front roll-up glass. Tinting is not available that light, so in effect, it is against Iowa Law to tint the front roll-ups. No limits on the other glass of your vehicle. Only a top band is allowed on the windshield.

Illinois Law does not allow tint on the front roll-up glass. The back of the vehicle is limited to 35%. Only a top band is allowed on the windshield.

If you have a medical reason for needing tinting on your front roll-ups, such as light sensitivity to the eyes or skin, you can easily obtain a waiver from the state by securing a doctor's statement.

For those who would like to have tinting on the front roll-ups, we recommend that you go with a lighter tint, such as 35% or 50%. Passenger cars are scrutinized by law enforcement officers more so than trucks, vans or SUVs, which may come from the factory with dark tinted glass on the back. If you are ever pulled over for any reason, the smart thing to do is to roll down your window and have your license, proof of insurance and registration in your hand and your hands on the steering wheel. Law enforcement officers appreciate these considerations!

Should you decide to tint your front roll-ups, we do have you sign a document that states that the law was explained to you…we are required to do this.

Additionally, we have a policy that in the event that you receive a written warning or ticket, we will remove tint on the front roll-ups for free.
